Debs Best Road Trip – Week 3

This is the final stretch of an unforgettable two-week road trip — from one more night in Vegas, through Bryce Canyon at sunset, and slowly working our way back home.

Maurine’s flight home was that morning, so we said our goodbyes and got her to the airport, and just like that it was down to me and Deliss for the rest of the trip.
More Night in Vegas
On the 13th, we put Maurine on a plane back home — she had to get back to work and couldn’t finish out the rest of the trip with us. My daughter and I stayed one more night in Vegas and made the most of it: the fire show, the Paris, the Bellagio, Hell’s Kitchen, and a game of Jenga at one of the tables.

Day 14 – Bryce Canyon by Sunset
We left Vegas and drove north toward Bryce Canyon. I won’t sugarcoat it — towing the Jeep behind a 32-foot RV through heavy crosswinds was not fun. There were a few white-knuckle stretches where I was gripping the wheel and just willing the rig to stay put on the road.
We made it in just in time to drop the RV at the park and take the Jeep up the mountain. We drove through the Red Canyon tunnels and caught Rainbow Point, Ponderosa Point, and Agua Canyon, all lit up in sunset colors — worth every nerve-wracking mile to get there.

Day 15 – A Cold Night and a Travel Day
It got down to 16 degrees that night, so we skipped hooking up the water and kept the slides closed to stay warm. The next morning we kept driving — stopped for a photo at some giant soda cans along the way, though I’ll admit I didn’t keep great notes on exactly where. We also passed through some stunning scenery at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Devil’s Canyon along the way. Monday was mostly a travel day.

Day 16 – An Accidental Wine Country Day in Palisade, Colorado
The RV park that night was already on our planned route home — we didn’t pick it for any particular reason beyond it being a good stopping point. What we didn’t know was that we were only fifteen miles from Palisade, Colorado, home to a whole cluster of wineries. Someone at the park mentioned it that evening, and that was all the convincing we needed — we spent the next day going from winery to winery, tasting our way through the valley.

Heading Home
From Palisade, we pointed the RV toward home and drove straight through, catching a last beautiful view at Browns Canyon National Monument along the way — no more stops worth photographing after that, just the long road back after an incredible two weeks.
