When the World Got Smaller

A month ago, life looked completely different.

I had a calendar full of plans.

Bowling weekends.

Races.

Trips.

Places to go and things to do.

Then, almost overnight, everything changed.

The world got smaller.

The things I normally filled my time with aren’t happening anymore, and I am finding myself learning how to slow down, adjust, and find a new rhythm.

A New Way of Working

As the office started rotating schedules, my work life looks completely different.

Eventually, my dining room table has become my office four days a week.

No coworkers stopping by. No conversations happening around me. No running out for lunch or grabbing coffee.

Just me, my computer, and a very different kind of workday. We worked from home before but this was different. It was strange at first, but I have started settling into a routine.

There are some things I appreciate. No commute. A little more flexibility. More time at home.

I knew things are different, but I also know I can make the best of the situation I am in.

Staying Active

Running wasn’t going anywhere.

The races had stopped, but the reason I ran hadn’t changed.

I still needed the movement. I still needed the fresh air. I still needed time to clear my head. So I kept moving.

Running. Walking. Hiking.

Finding little places close to home to explore.

Having Bandit during this time is pretty perfect. He doesn’t know anything has changed. He just knows there were walks to take, things to sniff, and adventures waiting.

Every day is a new experience for him — and honestly, a good reminder for me to enjoy the simple things.

Creating a New Home Routine

With more time at home, I have started settling into a different rhythm.

Meal prep has become part of my weekly routine.

Instead of scrambling through the week, I have started planning ahead and making things easier for myself.

I also have continued exploring something that had started a few months earlier.

That question from January was still on my mind.

What started as curiosity was becoming something I wanted to learn more about. I wasn’t looking for a business, but here I am wanting to share what I learned.

I was just trying to find better answers for my own home, but find that I want to help others too!

Finding Adventure Close to Home

The funny thing about adventure is that it doesn’t always require a plane ticket or a long road trip.

Sometimes it’s a sunset at the lake.

A fishing trip. A walk with the dog.

A quiet evening outside.

As the world has gotten smaller, I have started noticing things I might have rushed past before.

The places close by. The simple moments.

The little adventures that are still available.

Maybe adventure was never just about how far I could go. Maybe it was also about paying attention to where I already was.

I don’t know what the next few months will bring. Nobody really does. But for now, I’m enjoying the slower pace.

I’m taking care of my home. Taking care of myself.

Spending time outside. Learning new things.

Finding joy where I can. And making the most of the season I’m in.
